About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Chelsea edged past West Ham United with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge in this Premier League encounter. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Chelsea staging a dramatic comeback after initially trailing. This result was somewhat expected given Chelsea's recent form, but the manner of the victory highlighted their resilience. West Ham took an early lead through Jarrod Bowen (GAP -0.6%) in the 7th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Crysencio Summerville (GAP -3.6%) doubled their advantage in the 36th minute, leaving Chelsea with a mountain to climb. However, Chelsea's response in the second half was emphatic. João Pedro, who came on as a substitute, pulled one back in the 57th minute, injecting life into the home side. Marc Cucurella, another substitute, leveled the score in the 70th minute, setting the stage for a grandstand finish. Enzo Fernández (GAP +4.1%) completed the comeback with a 90th-minute winner, sealing all three points for Chelsea. The match also saw a late red card for West Ham's Jean-Clair Todibo (GAP -0.3%), which further tilted the balance in Chelsea's favor. Tactically, Chelsea's manager made six changes to the lineup, bringing in Liam Delap, Malo Gusto (GAP +4.8%), Cole Palmer (GAP +4.8%), Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (GAP +0.8%), Alejandro Garnacho (GAP -1.1%), and Jorrel Hato. These changes were partly due to injuries and suspensions, with Mykhailo Mudryk suspended and Romeo Lavia out injured. West Ham made a single change, introducing El Hadji Malick Diouf, with Oliver Scarles missing out due to a knock. Chelsea's victory solidifies their position in the upper echelons of the Premier League table, maintaining their momentum with another crucial win. Meanwhile, West Ham will need to regroup quickly as they aim to bounce back from this narrow defeat. The match showcased Chelsea's depth and ability to adapt, a promising sign as they continue their campaign.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
